The iconic photography company Polaroid—which has been around for 80 years—has gone with a growing technological trend and are now selling drones, or unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs), to take photos. The company is planning on offering a variety of different drones for purchase.

The line-up of planned drones from Polaroid starts with the Polaroid PL2900. This lightweight drone is available for purchase on Amazon at the price of $249.99 (as of October 10 2017) with free shipping. The list price of the drone is $299.99. Amazon has started shipping the drones on Saturday, October 7 of this year.

The Polaroid PL2900 has four rotating blades and the Polaroid’s popular rainbow-colored stripes. The drone weighs five pounds and is equipped with an HD 720P Wi-Fi camera. It can fly for up to 10 minutes. The drone can travel at speeds of up to 16 miles per hour and up to 1,000 feet in the sky. As UAVs go, the Polaroid PL2900 is remote-operated.

The product description states the camera on the drone “live streams video and photos to your smart phone.” The camera can record videos for the full 10 minutes it is in the air and can view objects from a distance of 262 feet.

The recommended age for the product is 14 years old and up. Assembly of the drone is required and it is made from plastic. It does not come with batteries but requires them to operate. The dimensions of the PL2900 are 16.5 inches by 16.5 inches by 5.5 inches.

An August 2016 post on Polaroid’s website states, “Polaroid was best known for capturing the fun instantaneously but over the years technology grew and fun was captured digitally. Now Polaroid is hopping aboard and helping to capture the fun one more time. This time it will be a dynamic adventure recording and taking images from the air.”

Amazon will only ship the drone to 48 states and states they cannot ship it to Hawaii or Alaska. In addition, the website states, “This item is not eligible for international shipping.”

Polaroid offers a limited warranty on the drone of up to 60 days from the day of purchase that “insures to the original purchaser of this product that the product will be free of defects due to materials and workmanship.” The warranty also includes one year of free replacement parts.

While Polaroid’s official website does not have much information on drones, it reminds people to follow Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) regulations when flying them. This includes possible registration depending on the drone’s weight, flying away from airports, keeping the drone within sight, not operating the drone while impaired, and complying with all other FAA regulations. The website states, “For other questions about using your drone for work or pleasure please contact the FAA for assistance.”

Aside from the PL2900, Polaroids website lists six other drone models, the PL3000, PL3100, PL2300, PL1700, PL1200, and PL2000. The Polaroid PL1000 has a seven-minute flight time but can achieve speeds of up to 20 miles per hour. In addition this model has a different design.

The cheapest of the coming drones prices are for the PL1200 listed at $59.99. After this is the PL2000 with a list price of $129.99. The other three (with the exception of the PL3100) are listed at the price of either $249.99 or $299.99.
