Our Recent Applications of Helicopter Lifting Services in Tower Maintenance

In our extensive experience with tower maintenance, we’ve tackled a variety of challenging projects across the United States. Two recent examples demonstrate our team’s adaptability and efficiency when using helicopters for these tasks.

In Brunswick, Ohio, we worked on a 350ft guyed radio tower, a structure that had stood since 1964. The tower’s location near power lines presented a unique challenge for a ground crane. However, our team adeptly used a helicopter to remove the top 180ft section of the tower, carefully placing it in a nearby field. This section, weighing 4,950lbs, was subsequently divided into three smaller sections, the heaviest of which was under 2,200lbs. This strategy allowed our ground team to assist with the deconstruction using a smaller, more cost-effective crane that could access the site.

On the other side of the country, in California, we recently replaced a 1,600 lb. radar on a 130ft tower. Despite unexpected weather conditions, our team was able to reschedule and complete the job in a fraction of the time estimated by a ground team. The use of a helicopter eliminated the need for additional roads, cribbing and blocking the area, and other extra costs associated with an All Terrain Crane (ATC) accessing the tower. This approach demonstrated the efficiency, versatility, and adaptability of helicopter use in tower maintenance, leading to a seamless and safe operation.
